Thankful for Caring Friends

Some days you realized how blessed you are, and thanks to one of my best friends, it has been one of those days.  My best friend Aboye sent me these flowers to my new job.  I started only a few weeks ago and am loving it so far.  I loved it even more having these flowers come through the door!  It means so much when you know you have family and friends you can always count on no matter what.

House of Cards, You Win.

Best and worst thing about Netflix streaming?  Watching shows marathon-style.  Then finding other awesome shows you can watch for days on end.  Show of the moment?  House of Cards.  New personal hero?  Robin Wright.  She's cold as ice and I love it.

Unbroken - A must read.

So many of my friends had read and recommended this book, even my father, and for some reason it took me about a year to finally open the book up and actually read it.  I have to say, I should have listened to them the first time around and read this book immediately.  It is such a powerful story and so well-written.  It is a true story about Olympian Louis Zamperini and it reminds you of just how strong the human spirit and the will to survive can be, even in seemingly hopeless situations.  It helped me this past month to put life in perspective.  It also educated me as to the state of POW camps in Japan during WWII.  And not in the dull and boring way that some nonfiction can read.  The book is gripping.  I sincerely hope the movie will do his life justice.

Grovin' with the Vols

Old blog out, new blog in.  With the onset of fall and all the goodness that comes with it - Ole Miss football, those little candy pumpkins, and sweaters with leggings and ankle boots -- it felt like a good time to start blogging again.  Something about all the different changes in my life recently, though, made me want to start a new blog instead of writing on my old one (What's the Beale - which I deleted).  Soooo... besides any suggestion on names for the new blog which is still a work in progress, here are some updates!

It has somehow happened that the vast majority of my friends here in Memphis are dedicated Vols fans and alumni.  How this happened, I know not.  But this circle of "Go Big Orange" fans extends to my boyfriend Jason, his family, and most of my close friends here like Dr. Britney.  For one glorious weekend, though, this alliance carried in my favor, as the Rebels/Landsharks/#3butshouldbe#2 team hosted the Vols.  It was, of course, a spectacular day in the Grove and another win at Vaught-Hemingway.

Lunch at Phillips Grocery, one of my faves in Oxford

Lindsey!  One of the most dedicated fans I know :)

Deuce!  With the TN and MS Governors.

So, you may have noticed that Jason was wearing a Vols shirt previously.  Julianne's family was kind enough to give us two tickets to the game, since Julianne and Chris can't attend with Faulkner's upcoming arrival.  The deal was, though, that Jason had to wear an Ole Miss shirt if we were going to sit beside them.  As you can tell, they feel no guilt in trying to convert him to an Ole Miss fan!  ;)

Dr. B!  One of my absolute favorite people to hang out with in Memphis.

See the shirt?  Never looked better.
